Interns at 2amigos

We welcomed this terrific experience. We gave the best of us, shared our knowledge, and had fun all the way. Now, if you’re wondering, will we continue with more internships? Yes, and we will excel at it.

Does 2amigos have an internship program? Yes!

Knowledge sharing across the board is one of the things I love the most in our company. Even better is that passion for sharing knowledge has led to starting our internship program.

A few months ago, we started talking about organizing an internship at our company. It started as an idea which later acquired shape and soul.

Why were we considering this idea at all? Our main reason was that we wanted to share our knowledge, and in the process, meet new amigos who wanted to learn more and grow as developers. In fact, sharing knowledge among ourselves is something that we do on a daily basis.

After several weeks’ discussion, we said, “Let’s do this!” We created a team consisting of our future interns and some current amigos (a.k.a. our employees). Some amigos saw an opportunity to take on a team role that they had never tried before, such as a product owner, tech lead, mentor, or scrum master. Others saw it as an opportunity to share various skill sets. I saw this as an amazing chance for some of us to use other talents and explore new roles to determine if they were a good fit.

The interns, young people with a lot of enthusiasm and a craving for knowledge, had the opportunity to gain experience, learn how to develop projects from scratch, and see what it looks like to work at our company.

While we had the chance to branch out, try different things, explore different roles, and grow, they had the chance to gain experience, learn, grow themselves, and improve their skills. For both sides, this was a wonderful opportunity that was mutually beneficial.

Once we assembled the team, we decided on a project, set it up, assigned roles and tasks, created a project plan, and started working.

During a two-month period, interns were involved in developing the basic idea of our project. They went through the whole software design process:

  • making the database
  • developing the front end
  • dealing with and resolving project-related tasks and problems

We made sure that they also learned about the tools we use and other processes by planning, having daily standups, and giving demos and presentations. We wanted to provide our interns with a basic understanding of a software developer’s daily life.

It was amazing and gratifying to watch these individuals grow, see their skills improve day by day, and observe the awesome, positive energy they brought with them to our workplace.

Every intern got a job interview afterward and an opportunity to join our team. The 2amigos team is definitely richer today, courtesy of new, valuable developers who are eager to keep contributing.

We welcomed this terrific experience. We gave the best of us, shared our knowledge, and had fun all the way. Now, if you’re wondering, will we continue with more internships? Yes, and we will excel at it.
